Langkawi - Day 3

We quickly learnt our lesson. After breakfast, we rang the cable car operator and only headed there after they had confirmed that it would be operating today ;-). This was my second time on the cable car; the first dated several years back with my family. I remember trying to appease my mom who had panicked - she had her eyes closed the whole time we were up there and was holding on to my dad. I remember telling her to imagine we were in an elevator, so I went like, "level 15...level 16...17.." LOL but my wise-guy comments had not been helpful and that had earned me a stern look from my dad haha. In my defense, I was only trying to assure her..not to frighten her further! :-p Anyway, that was when I realised my mother was acrophobic..

But I think I behaved myself this time around, didn't I? My frens would vouch for that ha ha. :->

Soon after the ride, we made a beeline for Kuah. For shopping! - a must, if you're ever in Langkawi. The weather was scorching hot but that didn't impede our shopping activities! (although it did melt and deform our chocolates! huhu :-S). I didn't get myself a lot; I've gained a couple of kgs and was trying to cut down my chocs intake, albeit unsuccessfully :-p Plus the only chocolate I was interested in (Nestle's Quality Street) was out of stock in all the shops I had asked. Done with shopping, we headed to Dataran Helang for pics.

7pm. Time to leave! Good bye Langkawi. We had a fabulous time! :-D

Langkawi - Day 2

Now that we were six, the challenge was to fit the four of us in the backseat of the Nissan Sentra LOL. Why not rent a bigger car, you may wonder. Well, we were contemplating between Renault Kangoo (6-seater, no boot/trunk) and Sentra (5 seater, spacious trunk) and we decided we wanted our luggages to be comfortable haha. Plus, we sort of underestimated our sizes, so yeah, we picked the Sentra. LOL.

Anyways, after breakfast, we made our way to the Oriental Village, only to find the cable car off limits due to some technical difficulties. Not wanting to wait, we left for segenggam only! Beras Terbakar at Padang Mat Sirat and then to Makam Mahsuri, a mausoleum complex dedicated to the ill-fated Langkawi maiden :-S. Dunno how much of the legend is true though.

Mahsuri's Kitchen

In the afternoon, we went for a tour along the Kilim Geopark. Cruised along the mangrove swamp, went eagle-feeding (well, the boatman fed em :-P), explored the bat cave (no pics since flash was not allowed inside), and stopped for lunch at Hole In The Wall, the unique floating restaurant. We had been forewarned by our boatman that the place was expensive, but we were reaaally starving, so we chose the cheapest item on the menu! LOL Before heading back, the boatman dropped us at a private beach for a swim in the sparkling green water of the Andaman Sea! 8-)

Needless to say, we had a blast! :-D

Langkawi - Day 1

Yes I've been to Langkawi before, at least twice in the last 5 years (you can't be half-Kedahan and not been there :-) ) but I think I did more this time around than the last two combined! :-> But what made this vacation extra sweet was the fact that it was http://dzuft.fotopages.com/?entry=1459376&back=http://dzuft.fotopages.com/?page=2(a trip won! ) Yay!
We stayed at the Langkawi Lagoon Resort which is conveniently located just 3km from the airport. The room was a tad too big for just one person so it was a good thing I brought my two good frens along- Miza, who's only been to Langkawi like a million times and Sun who had 'visiting Langkawi' on her '5 things I've always wanted to do' list  So I guess I helped make that happen eh Sun? ;-)
First place we visited today was the Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls which itself is a geological marvel! The view was awesome, and the water looked oh-so-irresistible that we had to take a dip! :-D Climbing up the 600++ steps proved strenuous though; I had trouble sleeping that night from sore limbs!

On the way back to our hotel, all wet and exhausted, we stopped by at Pantai Kok (which was mediocre), for dinner by the beach.

Mareena's Engagement @ Besut, Terengganu

Mareena a.k.a Map is engaged! [Pause for efffect :-D]

So we departed from home as early as 5:30 a.m on Sun's reliable Vios to witness Map's happy day. I was supposedly the second driver but only rendered my service on our way back to KL; from Gambang to Genting Sempah to be exact. That's just 10% of the journey, btw LOL Sun did most of the driving (hats off to her!) and 8 hours later we arrived at Map's hometown, Besut, just minutes before the ceremony began.

Congrats to Mareena who looked her sweetest in lilac. May all her wedding plans and preparations run smoothly, Insha Allah! ;-)

After the ceremony ended, we left for Sun's home in Tumpat, Kelantan where we stayed the night. The next day we did a little bit of shopping at MPKB, a place known only to the locals, as well as Pengkalan Kubor, a tax-free zone situated right on the Thai border, showcasing trinkets of all kinds. We also had the chance to experience local dishes; akok, satar, nasi kerabu, keropok losong to name a few :-D Simply scrumptious! Later that nite, we went to Kuala Berang, Terengganu and slept over at Kak Dah's (Sun's sister) place. The next morning, Kak Dah and Abg Lah brought us to Pasar Payang, where we resumed our shopping spree :-D Heee..

Many thanks to Sun, for being the perfect host, as well as to her parents, Kak Dah & Abg Lah for their warm hospitality. ;-)

Visiting Suzal's newborn @ PMC

My heartiest congratulations to Suzal & Cikju on the birth of their first baby daughter , Puteri Alya Qistina binti Norjulianizam.
Adorable, isn't she?

Nadiah, it was really nice meeting you and your boy again! The last time we saw Nad was more than a year ago when she came back from Japan to attend an interview for a scholarship (and she aced it too!). And today she is 7 months pregnant with her second child! :-D Her first boy, Naeil is almost five now and has grown into a handsome and bright lad ; he speaks Japanese (and could even pass for one!) although occasionally we could hear bits of Malay here and there, ...with Kedah dialect of course! LOL Cute!

Anyways..speaking of which.. I'd like to wish a Happy Mother's Day to the both of you, as well as mothers everywhere!
Especially to mine! :-D

Tagged :)

DO YOU PREFER…

1. To watch or to participate?
I'd say.. to participate, most of the time. Unless it's none of my business ..then it'd be more fun to watch, wouldn't it? :devilish: uh, ok, that didn't come out right...

2. Malls, catalogue shopping or the Internet?
Malls, of course! after all, what is shopping without a trip or two to the changing room!

3. A bath or a shower?
welll...before I learnt how to swim, I have to say..a shower. Now that I know how (barely!), a shower! :-p

4. To talk to people by telephone, in person or by e-mail?
If it's someone I'm comfortable with, my first choice would be.. in person :-) then maybe IM, phone and finally email. I'm kinda awkward on the phone, even with ppl im close with - I dunno why! My best frens are all aware of this so they rarely call me for a long girly chat cos I'm just terrible! "Zaf ni.. orang yg call dia, dia yg cakap bye dulu" haha.. sorry girls.. I honestly don't mean to cut short the conversation; I take after my dad who, when I complain about his abrupt "bye", would innocently reply, 'abah ingatkan dah habis..' LOL LOL Btw, this has become a family joke - to end phone conversations (with each other) with an abrupt "ok byeee" :-D

5. Typing or writing?
If it's more than 30 words, I prefer to type.
And if you've seen my handwriting, you'd prefer if i type too :-D

Done! That wasn't so tough :-D I'm gonna tag:
1. Gic/ Fizi - when you guys come back from your x-th honeymoon (I've lost count!)
2. Sun
3. Eli
4. Zaid
5. Wei Wei

This photo has nothing to do with the meme :P but I was just feeling nostalgic hee...
Sis & I - 1984

Apparently I have always been short haha.. LOL

Merpatis Reunion @ Our home

10 years. That's how long we've been friends :-D Unbelievable, isn't it..how time flies before your very eyes. Just 7 years ago, sometime in October, I think, we had our farewell party in Fizi's room at S23, Kolej 6. Remember Party Bear 2001? LOL. Gosh we were so immature haha....(some of us still are :P) Sigh, those were the days. I wish I could upload some of the pics here but we weren't dressed appropriately for public view :p Anyway now, when I look at Fatin and her 2 beautiful girls, and Suzal with her anytime-now belly- reality hit me like never before - it has been almost 7 years since we left uni! Wow. And the best part is we remain good friends until now. (I guess for most of it, we have the internet to thank seeing as most of us are in different parts of the world!)

Friends for life, Insha Allah. :-)

p/s As, Fuji, Nadiah, Jaielah & Uera - wish you guys were here too! Let's plan one big Merpatis reunion when everyone's around ok?

Gold Coast- Day 4

Fourth day can easily be summarized as shopping day , for we did nothing else! :P We hardly took photos, just imagine! LOL Late in the morning, we caught a bus to Carrara Market, reputed to be the largest market in Queensland, selling a wide range of products...from souvenirs, second-hand books, arts and crafts, designer copies, anything Made-In-China, fruits & veges, bakery and whatnot- all at bargain prices. It reminded me very much of Petaling Street + Pasar Tani :-D Dubbed as 'bargain-hunters paradise', the Carrara Market receives good reviews in the net (which was why we put it in our plan in the first place) but I personally beg to differ! 2 hours there and all I bought were a couple of Australian made soaps at AUD5 LOL I definitely prefer the night market we went on Day 2.

Anyway, there (of all places!), we met a Malaysian student who suggested that we visit Harbour Town - a factory outlet which offers brand names at discounted prices, up to 60%! Now that's more like it! Sadly, we only had 1 hour to shop as we had to rush to the airport afterwards. Bummer!

Anyway, to conclude, our 4D3N trip to Gold Coast was an awesome and a much needed vacation, right within our tight budget :-> And the fact that we planned everything ourselves, down to the smallest details made it all the more memorable. Alhamdulillah. :-)

Gold Coast - Day 3

The 3rd day was spent in Warner Bros Movie World, reportedly one of Australia's best theme parks. The concept is similar to that of Disney's and Universal Studios with movie-themed attractions and rides as well as parades by costumed characters.

Anyway, if you ask me..my personal favourite would have to be.. the Police Academy Stunt Show which I found utterly hilarious! :-> I was really impressed with the ingenuity and creativity exhibited. I've been to Disneyland/ DisneySea and Universal Studios Japan as well as the ones in Paris and I must say, with the exception of the Police Academy stunt show, most of the rides in Warner Bros pretty much have the same flavour. Anywho, I read somewhere that they are ending the show mid 2008 which is just too bad, but I guess it is to make way for something the newer generation is more familiar with. Dang, I feel old :-S

Coming back from MW, we had a bit of a shock in store. Our Czech roomie had checked out and taking her place was a caucasian man! the horror! :scared: (Un)fortunately, he lasted merely 5 seconds before yours truly barged into the lobby and demanded (or rather, requested :P ) for a switch! The backpackers management was understanding enough and had no problems to oblige. :-D
